Pope Says to Listen to Your Mother

Did you feel just a little bit better appreciated, loved, respected, and listened to as you got out of bed this morning? Well, that would be because before you even woke this morning, Pope Francis was busy reminding the world of the precious gift that we mothers are to our families, society, and the Church.

In a general audience this morning,

“The Pope said that for all our symbolic glorification of mothers, their important contribution to the life of society, their daily sacrifices and their aspirations are not always properly appreciated. Even in Christian communities – he said – often mothers are not listened to. He said that their voices should be taken more into consideration and they should be supported in their aspirations.”

Pope Francis also confirmed that mothers have an important role to play beyond childbearing and beyond the walls of our homes.

“Mothers, Pope Francis said, ‘are an antidote to the spread of self-centeredness, a decline in openness, generosity and concern for others’. And speaking of motherhood, the Pope said that it “is more than childbearing; it is a life choice, entailing sacrifice”, respect for life, and commitment to passing on those human and religious values which are essential for a healthy society.”

And my favorite line …

“Even in the darkest moments, mothers are witnesses of tenderness, dedication and moral strength.”

Yes! So true! Go get ‘em, moms! Go take on your day!

Thanks, Danielle, this is precisely what I needed to read today. I’m having a really rough time with my youngest right now (very clingy, can’t even leave her with a mother’s helper for 30 minutes, some are starting to drop hints that maybe it’s something I’ve done to ‘create’ this), and I lost it this morning. Ugly cry and all. Thanks for sharing these wise words to help me refocus.

Awwww I’m so sorry Lisa. Those kinds of hints and comments are the worst! Praying you will have a better day. God bless you & that little sweetie!

    I hope I’m not posting this twice….

I just ordered Momnipotent and watched the first episode yesterday (in 10 minutes chunks with little ones). I need to tell you that the every word went straight to my heart and I think I cried three different times. This is a very specific answer to my prayer of “Is it enough that I’m just a mom?”

I was so moved by melding of the ideology/beautiful teachings of the church and nitty/gritty challenges of the vocation. The video/journal and book all brought it together and this is totally what moms need. Thank you and Ascension Press for “getting” the New Evangelization!

I am starting this study at our Catholic Coffee House next month and praying for the moms who will come. Please pray for us too!

Thank you for following the promptings of the Holy Spirit. I have followed you through your blog/Faith and Family/The Gist/your books for a long time and feel like you are a mentor mom to so many of us!

Oh, Tisha! I am so glad to hear that you are doing the study and that it is reaching you at such an important time. Thank you for your kind encouragement and feedback. It really means a lot! Let us now how the study goes for you, and I will be praying for your group’s success. God bless you!
